NEW YEAR, BETTER ME: 4 HABITS TO EMBRACE IN 2022

The start of a new year is the perfect time to hit reset and turn a new page.

It is a time where many of us have a list of resolutions or goals to achieve in the next 12 months. We often hear stories of how they taper off after the first quarter of the year as people get caught up in the busyness of their careers and social lives or when they’ve run out of steam.

This year, break that cycle with these 4 tips you can easily incorporate into your daily lives without feeling in the dumps. After all, it’s a new year, with a better you in it.

1. Eat better, drink healthier

We make the common mistake of taking things to extremes while changing our diets. Rethink dieting, and make small efforts to replace specific components with healthier options. It’s one of the most sustainable ways to improve your overall health!

Bubble tea fans, opt for a low-sugar and smaller-sized option when you crave that sweet taste of heaven after a long week at work. Set a limit for when you’ll have your treat, be it once every two or four weeks.

Add whole foods, such as vegetables, fruits and fish, into your diet consistently. Start by adding one serving of your favourite veggies into your home-cooked meals every day! Toss in a ton of healthy herbs for flavour – you might find that you enjoy it more than you thought.

You Shouldn't Have To Choose

More than being just goals, resolutions are a long-term commitment to a healthier lifestyle. Many tend to set unachievable goals after facing guilt from feasting too much over Christmas and New Year’s.

January is simply the beginning of the year – let yourself take it easy! You are more likely to be successful if you pace yourself and allow your body to gain strength and momentum before going into the thick of it.

Isolate a sport or workout activity you enjoy and start training twice a week for a month before increasing its intensity or frequency. Not only will you prevent any major sports injuries, but it is also much easier to maintain your motivation and steadiness in your fitness journey.

3. Keep trying!

Truth is, the race is only over once you deem it to be.

If you’ve broken away from your workout routine, don’t lose heart and take baby steps to start over again!

Beginnings may start any time of the year. Give yourself the first 24 hours of your restart to gauge how to build your routine and recommit to your journey again. Before you realize it, you’ll be right back on track.

4. Reward yourself and have fun

Milestones are a huge factor in life, and especially so with fitness!

Take the time to reward yourself when you hit your personal milestone or a small accomplishment with something you enjoy. Treat yourself to a good meal with loved ones, snag thenew activewear setyou’ve been eyeing for some time or try out a new activity you’ve always wanted to. The possibilities are endless.

In the grand scheme of things, fitness plans are mere guidelines to help you get on track towards your goals. This does not have to be a boring one! Shake up your routine with something new and fresh anytime you hit a plateau. We recommendexploring a new hiking trailwith family and friends,a brand new gym, or afitness appyou’ve never tried before.

JIMMY @THE.AVERAGE.PLAYER

I started focusing on getting back into shape late 2021 with a goal to be in the best shape of my life in my 30s. I hope to continue to have the determination and discipline in 2022 to get closer to my goal.

CHERYL @SYEROWOO

Relearning working out and eventually getting back on the bike post-injury! Sometimes it's good to refocus and start from scratch again.

YANG HAN @CYANGHAN

I definitely want to try more new things - picking up a new instrument or learning new recipes. There's always an element of fun in everything we do; we just need to make it happen!

SHU HUI @SHUVASANA

To sweat less over the small stuff and sweat more during workouts! I hope to pick up a new skill or hobby - open to suggestions!
