During Circuit Breaker in 2020, AWARE's women’s helpline received 754 distress calls (a record-breaker!) from family violence cases. The NextGen Fund was launched in November to help keep AWARE's services and programmes running beyond the pandemic.

Additionally, the government announced a release of a white paper covering gender issues by mid-2021. Never before has the government conducted such a wide-ranging and comprehensive review of women’s rights with the aim of making gender equality a fundamental societal value!
