LEGS FOR DAYS: THE MOST FLATTERING LEGGINGS FOR LONGER LEGS

Whether you prefer to spend your time doing squats or yoga, leggings are an activewear staple in any closet. A quality pair of leggings — like our crowd-favourite Kyro Leggings — will fit you like a second skin, and be made with a lightweight, sweat-wicking fabric to keep you cool and dry as you exercise or just run errands in the Singapore heat.

When it comes to workout tights, the common misconception is that there is only ‘short’ and ‘long’. However, did you know that leggings actually come in multiple lengths as well?

Do a deep dive with us and discover the differences between leggings of varying lengths.

Does Length Matter?

The good news is that generally, legging length does not affect functionality. It is more a matter of preference and comfort, so you can go ahead and choose the one you look and feel the best in.

Generally, the most flattering length for long leggings is to have it fall right above your ankles.

For most petite Asians, this is usually the ⅞ length. However, do note that due to different body proportions, a pair of ⅞ leggings will look different on a person who is 155cm tall vs 175cm tall.

This means that the most flattering cut could be a pair of ⅞ or full length leggings respectively.

What are ⅞ Leggings?

If before reading this article, you had no clue what ⅞ leggings meant, don’t worry—you’re not alone. The ‘⅞’ in the name actually refers to the fabric length; ⅞ leggings are slightly shorter (specifically ⅛ shorter) than full-length leggings.

For reference, our full length Kyro Leggings in size M are 33 inches in length when laid flat, while our ⅞ Kyro Leggings are 1.5 inches shorter inseam.

Legging inseam, alternatively known as leg length, refer to the measurement from the crotch seam to the bottom of the legging.

The Perfect Length Formula

Like ankle grazer pants or jeans, ⅞ length leggings give an illusion of longer legs and a sleeker silhouette for the wearer. When worn, they simply look like an extra flattering pair of full-length leggings that cut off at just the right length.

If you’re wondering if this means the shorter the better, the answer is no. Shorter leggings that end mid-calf, such as capris, can be hard to pull off as they can make your legs look stunted and highlight chunky calves.

Best Leggings for Petites

⅞ length leggings are universally flattering and look good on almost all body types and heights.

However, given that they lengthen your pins and give you legs for days, they are especially suitable for petite wearers. This is fantastic news for most of us, given that the average height of women in Singapore is 1.61m.

(If you’re 1.7m tall, slender and built like a model, then lucky you—most legging lengths, from cropped to full, will probably look equally good!)

If you can relate and are having trouble finding leggings that won’t cut you off at your shin or drown you in fabric, then the ⅞ is the perfect length for you.
